Board Exams have always been the determining step for a student’s academic life. Many say and believe that these exams, which are held all over the country for class 10 & 12 students, help in deciding the profession of a student. Although, there is a section of students, parents and teachers who refute the importance of these exams. But we can’t deny the significance of these exams.
Since the onset on 2020, entire world has been fighting the novel coronavirus. For more than two months most of the countries were under lockdown. Because of the pandemic, various boards like CBSE, ICSE, IB and other state board exams for classes 10 & 12 for year 2020, were either postponed or some other provisions were made to mark the students’ grades.
Schools along with all other educational institutions have been shut down. Students have been studying at home, with the help of online classes provided by schools. Majority of students have been taking online tuitions from various platforms like e – Tuitions.
Considering that the schools have been closed for close to 9 months in the academic year so far, and the hit which classroom teaching has taken, Delhi government had written to Central Board of Secondary Education, to postpone the March 2021 board exams to May. This would have further pushed the new academic session to July 2021. As per the latest news, Education Minister will be announcing the dates of CBSE Board Exams 2021 on 31st Dec, 2020.
Another request which had been made by the education department to CBSE is regarding the syllabus. The department has requested the Board to reduce the syllabus for this year’s academic session.
Students and parents agree with both the requests made and, feel that this will give the students more time to cover the syllabus & focus on their studies. The government has been planning to re-open the schools in a phased manner for some time, but the pandemic has not let that happen.
Although students have been studying through online coaching modes, & taking the help of online tutors & teachers as well. But the impact on classroom studying has been a big hurdle in the learning process. The activities like projects & practicals, which were a part of the classroom teaching, have taken a hit.
The extension of the current academic year will give more time to the students to study & cover more syllabus. The reduction of syllabus will help the students further. CBSE had already reduced the syllabus in the curriculum.
The decision on reopening of schools has been left with the states. But we hope the decision on extension of academic session & reduction of syllabus goes in favour of students.
